The first New Zealand Medalist one dance event was held on Saturday April 14th in Wellington. 70 medal dancers across all medal grades took part, along with numerous professional and amateur partners. Dancers came from Whangarei, Auckland, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Wairarapa and Wellington.
The event was run by New Zealand’s two top dance societies, the NZFATD and the NZFDT. Five experienced medal examiners from both societies judged each dancer on five different aspects of their dancing.
Entrants who gained the highest marks over all dances in their grade were awarded the New Zealand title for that grade.
Entrants and examiners agreed the event was a fantastic success and further events of its kind are planned.
